DESCRIPTION: France, Comtoise clock, 8 day, time and strike with alarm, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum in a iron post and plate frame, cast brass dial with a profile of Prince Louis, Dauphin of France surrounded by laurels and fleur de lis, inset white enamel cartouches with Roman numerals, single pierced iron hand, applied brass fleur de lis spandrels above the dial and pivoted winding arbor shutters below, and brass plaque stamped with the words "FAIT POUR JEAN BAPTISTE RIPOZ A COMARET ".
CONDITION: Enamel numerals are in very good condition. Flat brass fronton is absent from the top of the clock. The side doors are missing. The clock has three hammers and two bells. The hours and alarm are struck on the lower, larger bell. The half hours are struck on the smaller, upper bell. Lower bell is embossed with "Joseph Dubois ". There are many nice construction details within the movement including a lightly made crown wheel, turned and faceted crown wheel arbor support, and decorative hardware. Four bladed iron fan. Movement uprights with small, but distinct feet. Suspension shroud is 5 inches tall. Pendulum leader is missing. No weights or pendulum are provided with this clock.
